Lafayette Associates was named for our home of Lexington, Kentucky which is in Fayette County. One of Kentucky’s original counties, Fayette was named in honor of the marquis de La Fayette, a French military advisor to George Washington and hero of the American Revolutionary War. 

The marquis de La Fayette, was a French nobleman who fled British custody and traveled to America to offer his services to the fledgling colonial army. He quickly became one of George Washington’s closest advisors and was instrumental in Washington’s victory at Yorktown, which brought about the end of the revolutionary war.

Nearly 225 years later, Washington's artful use of experienced advisors to defeat a much larger opponent with greater resources still stands in sharp contrast to the British practice of outsourcing much of their fighting to foreign mercenaries.
